Fall in Indiana

watercolor 11 x 15

At the Illinois Watercolor Society's members show about a month ago, I won a merchandise award. Part of it was this wc block. This is one I never tried before so I thought I would see what I can do on it. I loved the techniques I was seeing the oil painters using and I wondered if I could catch that look in watercolor. I felt that wc did not have to always be transparent, loose and light in value. I wanted to try to get texture into my painting. I did not use opaque paint. I just used less water. Enjoy!

Kathy, you have managed yet another time to squint and strain your eyes and come up with a stunner ! :)

Hi, Kathy, I can see that your fall lanscapes are so beatiful as if were with snow. I suppose, you soon begin with them. Take care with the darks!. But, where are the hoosiers?. MPDR.

hello pc, that is the only bad thing about this high contrast paintings...I am constantly squinting. I should just take my glasses off and paint. Like I tell my students "Don't be afraid of the dark" Those darks are what pull it together and make those light sing. Try to establish a dark as soon as possible when you paint so that you can key everything else to it. Remember... it is just a piece of paper or canvas. It is not what we come out with at the end, I believe that it is what we are feeling when we do it. Paint on my friend!!
