Watercolor 14 x 21
In this painting I decided to use the principal of "The Golden Means" which is basically a way to divide your paintings and it is the relationship to the parts.
Any way you look at it, I wanted to capture the logs in the water as they were crossing over each other. Still trying some more reflections.

Fall Barn II - step-by-step
This is another watercolor that I have completed for my next show at Scarborough Faire Cafe' in Schererville, IN. This restaurant is a neat place to eat, and I am very fortunate to be their resident artist. They do well at selling my paintings, too.

Fall Barn
in the beginning was the sketch which was done
from a photo that I took in February...I decided
to change the seasons.

This is the finished painting.
This is actually the first wash. Yes...all of this.
This is almost the finished painting. The finished
painting it at the top.
It was so nice to be working on 300# Lana wc paper with my Holbein paints. I thought I better start some fall scenes for the new show that I will be hanging soon at Scarborough Fare Cafe-Schererville, Indiana.

Demos: Hoot Convention
watercolor 7 x 10 / matted 11 x 14
This past week I was at the HOOT convention in Columbus, Ohio. I was with my framer and his team. At his booth these were two of the designs that I did as demos to teach how to do watercolor. I think I painted about 14 total. It was a challenge for me since I painted most of them upside down so that they could see what I was painting, then I was working on a board that I do not use to paint on, and I was using paints that I do not normally use. So I will say, it was a real challenge to me. But I did learn a lot.
So that is why I have not been on my blog for the past week. I finally put all of my supplies away so now I am ready to hit the studio. I'm back :)

Walk...Don't Walk -- Chicago
watercolor 14 x 21
This is another in my Chicago series. I was driving down town (I do not know why we call it down town when we are south of Chicago) and I was taking some photos of people walking across the street. Not really thinking and all of a sudden I had seen a group of people on Segways. It was so strange and funny....only in Chicago. I guess there are tours that you can take on these things. Now this is the way to get around in the big city.
You never know what to expect when you are down town.

Art After Dark--Chicago Art Institute
watercolor 14 x 21
This is a painting of a photo that I had taken last week while driving through the city that I thought might make a good painting... I loved how the light was shining through the windows of the Art Institute.
This is a painting of a photo that I had taken last week while driving through the city that I thought might make a good painting... I loved how the light was shining through the windows of the Art Institute.
This is on 300# Lana wc paper. I first applied colors for my basic wash.
Then I started to block it in with adding some of my middle darks.
I try to establish my darkest dark as soon as possible so that I can key everything to it.
Now I am establishing more of my darks by adding the foreground trees.
Finally there is the calligraphy of the painting where I add all of the little line work, such as the flag poles, any line work, tree branches, etc.
ENJOY!!
