Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries/Sweet and Savory

watercolor 14 x 21

It's a new year so I thought I would play with a new technique. New to me that is. I paint a lot freer than this. This is really tight. I went to the market and bought a bunch of fruits and veggies for this next series. Who said I am a starving artist?

I am still trying to decide between the titles of this painting:

1). Life is just a bowl of cherries
2). Sweet and savory

Which do you like best?

Hi, Kathy. This is a great watercolor, but if you let me, I'd like to say two obsevations. First, why did you leave white spaces between cherries?. That is provoking distractions in your watercolor.
Second, why don't paint a slight hint at the background instead of so much darkness?.
That said, I like your painting in any case, I am an expert at finding defects, now I just need to know how to paint.MPDR.

Julian, sorry my painting distubs you...but your are wrong :) MPDR
The white spaces are there to separate the cherries a bit but I can fill those in for you if you are going to purchase this painting. I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could do a solid black like those oil painters and the old masters :)
You need to get on facebook. This way I wouldn't have so much trouble getting onto your blog.
BTW on FB 57 people hit the like button on this painting and 38 left comments. These are all smart people. MPDR

Hope you are well. How many wc are you planning to do this year since you didn't get your 200 done as you wished last year?

thanks hmuxo! I think I will go with the sweet and savory. The next one is going to be called either "sometimes life gives you lemons or cherry lemonade"
Maybe I will post that one tomorrow. Time to leave the studio and take a break.

Well, Kathy, really after your fantastic watercolors-someday I'll die of envy- my following admiration is for your good humour. I've got to speak with my lawyer first to go on facebook. MPDR. I think I'm too younger for that. MPDR. I agree with you, is very difficult to get black backgrounds, and now I'm going to Facebook to see your comments.

Hi Julian...Thanks for your comments. Did you move over to facebook yet? We will let you on. MPDR With the blizzard that we have had, your can take the juice from the cherries and add it to the snow and get a cherry flavored snow-cone :) MPDR I wouldn't suggest trying this with veggies.

A bit late, but ... I like "sweet and savory", too. I noticed your post because of your comment about trying to "tighten up". I'm trying to "loosen up". To bad we can't share, or meet halfway somehow.
