The Value of Values - challenge

watercolor 5" x 7" and 7" x 5"

These were the painitngs that I did for this past week's challenge. We just had to do one, but I felt that I picked so much on the verticle one that I wanted to do another very quickly. It took about 15 minutes to do the second one. It is amazing how much time these little ones take. It is so much easier for me to paint larger and looser...but I guess that is why these are challenges.

The challenge was to have one area of values taking up most of your painting (papa) then another set of values using a little less space (mama) and then the last set of values - just a smidge (baby). They are fun to do, but it really made me think. I went through my sketchbooks and I could see where I might want to improve my sketches/paintings.

Thank you very much, Kathy, for this lesson. It is easier to understand the values and the composition using only one colour.
I love these virgen landscapes.

Thanks Mercedes for taking the time to visit and comment. These are fun to do...then we go and put color and mess them up. lol But they are something to think about before we start a painting.
Have a great week!

Hi meera...I haven't be able to get to this week's challenge yet. I have been busy planting all of my flowers. Hummmm maybe that will be my next subject. You can find these on the daily paint works. Have fun.
