Jack's Jonquils

watercolor
floral
12" x 12"

This is a demo that I did for my class yesterday. We were all trying to paint loose. Those of you who know my work know that I do not paint really loose so this was a challenge for me too. It is done on a new board called Arches we board. It has a hot press surface to it. The thing I noticed about this board is that it didn't lift like other hot press surfaces.

See how loose you can paint!!

This is so beautiful, love the loose style of this, love to see your works in progress as well.

Thanks Maria...so glad you stop by to view my blog. I don't normally paint this loose, but I was trying to teach my students to do so...or at least a little. lol.

My big gala for the art center was last night so now I can go and paint for myself...or anyone who wants to buy them :))

Fortunately, you have learned that the watercolor is more beautiful in way loose. I'm kidding. It's always lovely at any style. Well, a bit more if you do it.

hmuxo...Thanks for your comment. Don't give up painting loose. It is hard for me, too, since this is not my style. Just take a subject matter that works with this technique. Flowers are good for this. The way I feel...tight or loose...if you enjoy doing it, that is all that matters.

In case anyone is wondering why these flowers are called "Jack's Jonquils" Jack was a great friend of mine who was a potter. A very good potter and a very dear friend. He passed away 2 years ago at a very young age. I took photos of these flowers that were growing by his house/studio years ago. One day I will do a painting of Jack so that you will see who he is. These flowers are for you Jack!
