Hi Meera... thanks for stopping by :) and I am happy that you like the painting. The black background is actually achieved by using black paint. Lamp black transparent watercolor. I normally do not use black except for something like this. I would prefer to make a rich dark with many colors that reads as a black or a dark. hope that helps.
