watercolor 7 x 11 Matted 12 x 16This was one of the most glorious days I can remember. It has finally gotten warm out and it felt so good to get the gazebo all cleaned out and ready for sitting and relaxing.
Since this is Easter Weekend, I thought I would paint a lily. I went and bought me a yellow and a white lily. Good reason to buy flowers. As class demos I did these two paintings. I painted the top one in my usual manner and then I tried to paint loose. It is a bit looser, but I have a long way to go to paint really loose. But it was a challenge and it was fun.

Well, I feel sad this time I haven't got lilies yet. Going on with my explanations about Spanish names, lily is " Azucena " a beautiful name for women, which is accustumed to use it in Andalusia. And now, I can say you that you painted these lilies with few brushstrokes, one thing that I admire, but the shape appears detailed enough. They are two great watercolors and if you permit me to say, I like more the second.
Hi Julian. I am trying to paint loose, but it just doesn't feel right. People like the second one best, but I do not. To me it is like an amateur painted it. It is kinda sloppy. The drawing is lost. No excitement for me.
I painted a white Easter lily today and I will post that tonight. Another loose one.
Well, like you, I also liked the first one better. I know how hard it is when we want to try new styles. I've been doing that for 20 years and I love it. To have the chance to explore several possibilities. I admire your work, Kathy. Congratulations.
Thanks for your comments Rogerio. I checked out your site and you do try various styles and techniques. Do you find this hard to do. I have been painting and teaching my style since 74 so I will have to be patient. If it is meant to be then it will be.
